Libratus Destroys Top Poker Players

Libratus defeats poker prosLibratus program developed by two Carnegie Mellon researchers Professor Tuomas Sandholm and grad student Noam Brown won the 20-day poker tournament Brains Vs. Artificial Intelligence: Upping the Ante. The machine won more than $ 1.7 million in chips.

Until recently it has been concidered impossible for artificial intellingence to defeat people in games with incomplete information like poker. In 2015 Claudico program played with four professional players and ranked third. For two weeks, only one scored fewer chips than the computer after having played 80,000 hands. As we can see now, developments in the field of machine learning have allowed computers to make a 'historic' step forward.

Now during a 20-day No limit Texas Hold‘Em Heads Up tournament Libratus, an AI built by two Carnegie Mellon researchers,  completely destroyed four poker pros Jason Les, Daniel McAulay, Dong Kim and Jimmy Chou. After 120,000 hands played in the tournament Libratus easily beat its four competitors by raking in more than $1.7 million worth of chips.

Despite this, the developers will not receive any money, and the prize pool of $200 thousand will be divided between the four players, depending on their places in the tournament. Isn't it a discrimination of AI?)
